An Orange County pool contractor and pool cleaning service had been running for a quarter-century — reviews, repeat clients, licensed, insured. But when homeowners searched for pool contractors or pool cleaning in their neighborhood, this business was nowhere. Six months later, they rank across the entire local market.
When we started, the site had 243 pages indexed by Google — and 71% of them got zero clicks. Impressions trickled in at under 500 clicks per quarter. Average site CTR was 0.45%, roughly a tenth of what a healthy local service business should see.
The ranking map told the same story. In the business's own backyard they held a small ranking core, but a few miles in any direction and the business disappeared from the top 20. Prospects searching from a mile away were being handed to competitors.
The business had everything a buyer wants: 25 years of operation, five-star rating, licensed contractor, 7-days-a-week service. But Google didn't know what the site was about.
Our methodology for a legacy business with no SEO foundation is to treat it like a new site inside an old URL. Fix every structural issue first, then build the content layer that compounds.
Fixed the www / non-www split that was diluting the site's authority between two Google-indexed versions. Noindexed four low-value legacy pages that were cannibalizing real service pages. Added canonical signals site-wide.
Audited 243 pages — not a single one carried a Service schema. We shipped Service, LocalBusiness, Organization, Breadcrumb, and FAQ schema across 74 service pages. Google could finally see what each page actually did.
Built 10 new nested location + service pages targeting the compact keywords owners actually search. One page per city per service across Fullerton, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Orange, and Anaheim.
The pool equipment cost page was getting 16K impressions a month and losing almost every one — bad titles, no hooks. We rewrote titles and descriptions on the ten biggest impression pages to actually convert.
Found three pairs of pages competing for the same query. Consolidated the thin page into the authority page, redirected the loser, and let Google concentrate ranking signals on one URL per intent.
Built a 52-week Google Business Profile posting calendar and a verified citation list across local directories. Google rewards the profiles that stay active.
The chart below is Google Search Console. Not a vendor dashboard, not a vanity metric. The actual record of how many times the business appeared in Google and how many of those turned into clicks.
Google Search Console · 7/19/26 → 10/15/26 · 3,240 clicks · 1.03M impressions · avg position 14
Google Maps rank is measured by physically searching from different points around a business. In April, the business ranked top-10 only in a small core around the office. By October, the business ranks top-5 across the entire Anaheim, Placentia, and Yorba Linda local market for "swimming pool repair service."
Google rewards sites that answer the question clearly, load fast on mobile, and point to a real local business. Here are three live pages from the rebuild.
There is no magic trick. There is a process that catches up small-service businesses with the way Google ranks local search in 2026.
Short, specific, high-intent queries that owners type when they're ready to call. "Pool heater repair Anaheim" beats "all about pools" every time.
One URL per city per service, with unique local context. Google can match the exact search to the exact page instead of defaulting to a generic homepage.
Structured data on every service page so Google knows the business, the service, the service area, and the phone number — before a human reads a single word.
Thin pages fighting authority pages for the same query is the silent killer of local SEO. One URL per intent, redirects for the rest.
The Google Business Profile is where most small-service buyers decide. We run a 52-week posting calendar. Google rewards profiles that stay active.
Everything we do is in Google Search Console within 48 hours. No vendor dashboards, no vanity metrics. The raw record of your Google visibility.
We work with local service businesses that have real reviews, real reputation, and real work — but have been invisible to the exact homeowners searching for them. Twenty-minute call, free rank check, no obligation.
